Deep Listening: Sit Spot, Mapping & Eco-Journaling

This workshop will guide you in establishing a sit spot routine—returning to the same place in nature to observe and connect over time. You’ll keep an eco-journal, map your sit spot in meaningful ways, and track patterns such as weather, moon phases, and wildlife rhythms. These simple yet powerful practices deepen ecological literacy and kinship with the land.
Skills you will learn in this course:
Establish and maintain a sit spot practice

Tune your senses and step into the art of reading the land as a living story. In this workshop, you’ll learn to identify animal tracks and signs, practice aging and interpreting them. You’ll also explore the hidden world of bird language—calls, alarms, and patterns. These skills together open new layers of awareness and connection.

Fire as Teacher:
Friction Fire & Sacred Flame

What to bring? Pack a lunch, water bottle, journal, pencil, and if you have a hatchet, fixed blade knife or other fire tools you wish to explore. Note the class will focus on friction fire and not on modern methods.

Option to purchase on site a fixed blade knife $25
Experience the ancient craft of fire-making and the wisdom it carries. Through hands-on practice with bow drill and hand drill, you’ll learn how to source and prepare materials, build a fire with skill, and tend it with respect. Alongside practical techniques, we’ll explore fire as a teacher of focus, patience, and transformation.
Skills you will learn in this course:
Carving your own bow drill set from natural materials
Using a knife safely, confidently, and with purpose
Identifying the best local woods and materials for friction fire
Proven techniques for producing a coal with a bow drill
Making and using a natural tinder bundle
Billeting firewood safely and efficiently
Preparing, building and tending a fire
Leave No Trace principles and effective fire cleanup

Volunteers receive mandatory training and must pass a background check.
