Fire Tenders - First Fire of the Season!

Thank you to everyone who helped us move firewood! Having the wood and the rain inspired the first fire of the season. Brought to life with a song, the fire held us as we expressed our gratitude, snacked and listened to a story. The story today was one by Carolyn Hillyer, A Kettle of Bilberry Soup. I wonder why White Stoat went off the edge of the map?

We then dove into groups that rotated... tending the fire and painting with berry ink; rolling nettle stalks, splitting them open, and removing the pithy inside to end up with the fibers; gathering wispies and small branches to help us light future fires. It's so important when children are given a choice to follow their interests! In the afternoon they chose to either play in the field or wander the land.

What a joy to be with them in their wonder and imagination, their physicality and their play!
