Mushroom and Squirrel Lessons with Wild Wanderers

After the recent rains, we brought mushroom guides to our nature mysteries table, sparking the children's curiosity as we explored. With the possibility of colder weather ahead, we played a game of Foxtails to warm everyone up.

In autumn, we look to squirrels and mushrooms for wisdom. Mushrooms teach us about community, sharing resources in the forest, while squirrels prepare for winter by gathering food and nesting materials. Inspired by them, we set out to explore and collect things for ourselves.

After lunch, we did some nature journaling, then gathered sticks and tinder for one of our caches, getting into "squirrel mode" for the winter ahead.

We joined the Wild Wanderers Teen group for a game of Nutty Squirrels—perfect for the day’s theme. Before leaving, we shared highlights and wondered what treasures we might collect next week!
