Welcome Back, Wind Gatherers!
Sept 20, 2024
What a sweet first day the Wind Gatherers had on the land! We started with an energizing game of Eagle Eye in the Scotch broom, followed by our first morning circle to get to know each other. On our way to our new forest home, a fire circle for laughter and learning, we met an old friend: the Evergreen Huckleberry. We observed its leaves, stems, and berries—can your child pose like a Huckleberry? How did the berries taste?
We also learned part of the song, ʔuʔušəbicid čəd, ("I have compassion/unconditional love for you"), composed by Archie Cantrell of the Puyallup Tribe. We sang it as a gift to the Huckleberry in thanks for the berries.
After playing in our base and exploring the salal passageways, we wandered to Hartman Meadow for lunch and fun. Some played Fox Tails, others made up games, and we gently carried a praying mantis. Can your child show you how long it was? What color was it?
The day flew by, and we can’t wait for the next one!
