Black Lives Matter
Vashon Wilderness Program condemns racism and the ongoing persecution and killing of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. As a nature mentoring organization, we affirm all humans have a right to exist and thrive, and we are committed to creating community in which our human family experiences connection, belonging, respect, reciprocity and peace in kinship with each other and the natural world.
We recognize the need for widespread, systemic change to eliminate institutional racism everywhere, including at the Vashon Wilderness Program. We want to let you know that we are listening and are committed to providing programs that promote respect for, and shared power and co-creation with, our BIPOC kin. There is still much work to do.
To our white-bodied community members, we encourage you to lean in and listen, in order to learn and grow alongside us, as we continue to investigate our own privilege and prioritize equity and justice throughout our organization, personal and community lives.
To thrive, the natural world teaches us we must bring forward our individual gifts and strengths to ensure the health and well-being of all beings. We encourage you find a way to authentically express your own in service of a more just and thriving world.
