Coyote's Den - Adventures with our Late Start program
December 5, 2019
What a fun day we had last Thursday. It was dry and relatively warm -- perfect adventuring weather!
Our day began with a hunt to find a pair of stones. This led to discoveries of all kinds -- mushrooms, an insect or two, a pile of leaves to play with. We then made music with our stones, tapping them together.
Out in the woods we sought out a stone that might be extra-special to us, bestowing us with some special quality of itself. Some of us found a large "Stone of Destiny." Gifts we realized in ourselves while touching the stone included:
- silence
- the gift of nature
- listening
- butterfly magic
- being a leader
We played "Eagle Eye," listened to each others' nature news (recent encounters with nature), and then embarked on projects. Some of us "mined for gold" -- digging into a powdery section of a log and making discoveries -- some created food (the moss served up on a salal leaf with a bright pink sprig of Herb Robert flower was especially delectable), and some of us started a nature museum. The veining on a huge hazel leaf and an insect-inscribed branch revealed some of the many dazzling designs in nature.
More games and more discoveries, and all-too-soon it was time to leave our Coyote Den and head into the next part of our day.
Coyote Kids meets again next year! We look forward to sharing nature adventure with your children on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020!
Joys of Midwinter to you!
