Feather Sticks and Fir Tips with Wild Wanderers
October 25th 2023
Our last gathering together was hailed by sunny skies and cold winds. Our Wild Wanderers split into two groups:
One group explores fire making, namely developing our skills with knives to create feather sticks. Watching the youth struggle with this fine motor controlled task, and pushing through to develop their control and relationship with their knife was wonderful to witness.
The other group wandered the land encountering, harvesting, and familiarizing themselves with edible and medicinal plants that inhabit this land. They then returned and made a lovely tea for us all to share around the fire and painted some botanically inspired watercolors that blew us away.
Our day wrapped with a big game tucked amongst the salal and huckleberry where one person found a hibernaculum while all the other garter snakes searched to find them, joining them as they prepared for the cold winter months.
Another beautiful day upon Tačo (Vashon)!
